Wonderful Writeup of Heave Ho! in the Hart To Heart column

There's a great blog here in town called SouthernMamas that is all the rage for mamas. I found out about it through Scribble Art Studio, since they post events and promotions on the blog quite regularly. Since it's such a great resource, I asked about getting Heave Ho! featured on the blog, and Anne Hart got back to me and said we could indeed get the book on there, but we should first feature it in her Hart To Heart column in the Savannah Morning News. This was, of course, an incredible added bonus!

Check out the article here.

Working on a Heave Ho! book tour.

I've been digging around on the interwebs, and have found that there's a nice line up of book festivals in April, so I'm applying to all of those now. Once it all gets locked in, I'll post a schedule, but the tour will be primarily in the South, with stops in Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky. And maybe, just maybe, I'll make the jump from Kentucky up to New York for the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair. That will be the longest drive of the trip, but it looks like it's under 10 hours, so it's manageable. The KY and NY book festivals are back to back, so I'd have to get on the road right away, but I'll look for a few more things to add on after NY to break up the drive a little bit on the way back to Savannah.

Incredible review of Heave Ho! from the Book Troll Real Escape blog!

The Heave Ho! cast and I are super-excited about our latest review from the Book Troll Real Escape blog. Karen (the Book Troll blogger) and her son (assistant Book Troll) sat down and read the book together. She tells of his excitement as they opened the package together, saw the book for the first time, and of his engagement with the story as the worms bravely came to the assistance of their worm buddies. I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed their enjoyment of the book, but I'll let you read it for yourself.

"Once the story was done he joyful looked at me and said, “Mommy books about worms are the best!” I would have to say that Jose Lucio scored big in this house with Heave Ho!"

Click the Book Troll to read the whole review.

"We will certainly keep this one around in our house and enjoy it over and over again. Plus we got two adorable worms in the book that are now “my best friends,” according to my three year old."

The rest of the Heave Ho! books have arrived!!!

900 books arrived yesterday, so now it's time to really start moving these things. Kapo (the dog) is doing her part by sorting through the packing filler.

The books are stocked at E. Shaver Bookseller in downtown Savannah, GA and you can get them here on the site in the shop.

Heave Ho! has moved 100 copies in less than a month!

So the good news is that we've sold our first 100 copies of Heave Ho! ,the bad new is that I don't have the rest of the shipment yet, but it sounds like they should be here by the end of next week, so thanks for your patience if you're waiting on a copy.

In the meantime, I'll be researching outlets for the book, and looking more into doing a tour around the southeast in the coming year.

Until next time...

Savannah Children's Book Festival 2014

Heave Ho! is officially out and in the world! The 2014 Savannah Children's Book Festival on November 15th was its debut, and quite a successful debut I must say. We sold a lot of books and gave away a ton of Worm stickers. Now it's time to plug away online and try to spread Heave Ho! all across the interwebs.

Everything's coming together.

After countless hours down the rabbithole that is the interwebs, I think I've finally got all the basics figured out to get Heave Ho! released and ready for debut at the Savannah Children's Book Festival.

This whole self-publishing venture has had a lot of twists and turns, but for me, it was important to do it correctly so that I owned rights to the book and had complete creative control the whole way.

Of course, all this so far is only the first step. Next I have to buckle down and actually get the book out there in front of people! I'm still a little leery of Amazon, but I think as long as I maintain myself as the distributor, I won't have to feel compromised by that.

That's enough industry jargon, here's a pic of the key to Annelidical Books (Heave Ho!s publisher (me)).

New look for the website!

Things have been a little quiet around here, but I'm getting back at it now- I've changed up the site, and am getting ready for a big push with Heave Ho. Check back in here for activity and events as things progress. See you soon.
